Peninei Halakha: Sacred Objects | Rabbi Eliezer Melamed
This book offers a comprehensive, thorough, and fascinating exploration of the halachot, customs, and spiritual meanings surrounding the sacred objects and artifacts that accompany Jewish life. This is not merely a collection of legal rulings, but a spiritual and practical guide that illuminates daily life with the light of holiness and explains how material and physical objects become vessels for the spirit and faith.
The book presents the full range of issues concerning objects of mitzvah: from the laws governing the writing, inspection, and preservation of Torah scrolls, tefillin, and mezuzot (STAM), through the laws of the sanctity of the synagogue, the Holy Ark, and sacred objects, to an examination of the parameters of genizah and the erasure of God’s name. In keeping with the series’ tradition, complex topics are presented in clear, contemporary, and well-organized language that combines the reasons behind the mitzvot with practical halakhic rulings.
