Book language: HebrewThis book is in Hebrew.

The book In the Footsteps of the Prophets: Joshua and Judges opens the In the Footsteps of the Prophets series, the sequel to the beloved children’s series In the Footsteps of the Torah.

Like the books in the previous series, this volume presents the complete story of the Books of the Prophets in sequence and in full, without skipping chapters or passages that are sometimes omitted from study or storytelling. The book enables children to become familiar with the Books of Joshua and Judges in a clear, coherent, and in-depth manner, while remaining faithful to the plain meaning of the verses and the words of the Sages and commentators (does not contain biblical text).

For ease of study and understanding, the content is color-coded:

  • Black – Biblical verses and the plain meaning of the text.
  • Turquoise—commentaries by the exegetes.
  • Red – The words of the Sages.

A new color has also been added to this book:

  • Green – to indicate the places and sites mentioned in the Books of Joshua and Judges and their locations in modern-day Israel.

Since the Book of Joshua is rich in descriptions of the land’s territories and references to many places, eye-opening maps have been incorporated throughout the book to help readers orient themselves, understand the sequence of events, and connect with our Holy Land.

This book is both a textbook and an experiential journey, inviting readers to follow in the footsteps of Joshua and the people of Israel, as well as the judges and leaders of the nation—and to gain a deeper understanding of the stories found in the Books of the Early Prophets.

In the Footsteps of the Prophets: Joshua and Judges

In the Footsteps of the Prophets: Joshua and Judges is the first book in the “In the Footsteps of the Prophets” series, a sequel to the successful and beloved “In the Footsteps of the Torah” series. The series continues the same unique approach of making the Holy Scriptures accessible to children and youth, presenting the words of the prophets in a continuous, clear, and comprehensive manner—enabling a deep understanding of the entire biblical narrative (does not contain biblical text).

The book presents the Books of Joshua and Judges as they are—as a complete and continuous narrative of the period of the entry into the Land, the settlement, and the challenges faced by the Jewish people in the early generations in the Land of Israel. Unlike abridged adaptations, this book preserves the integrity of the biblical narrative without omissions or abridgments of complex passages or those that are less “easy” to read. The goal is to enable young readers to become familiar with the Word of God as it appears in the Bible, in its entirety.

The book’s uniqueness lies in its multi-layered approach to accessibility, which facilitates a precise and accessible understanding of the text:

  • Black—the biblical verses in their plain meaning, as they appear in the Bible.
  • Turquoise – Explanations from commentators that clarify the plain meaning of the text and add depth and context.
  • Red – The words of the Sages, which offer a spiritual and moral perspective on the events and characters.

This book also features another unique element:

  • Green – Marking and identifying places and sites mentioned in the books of Joshua and Judges, linking them to modern-day Israel.

Since the Book of Joshua (and later the Book of Judges) is particularly rich in descriptions of borders, cities, territories, and journeys throughout the land, the book includes numerous maps and geographical illustrations that help the reader understand the geography in which the events took place. The maps transform the study from a purely textual experience into a more tangible and clear one, connecting the biblical narrative to the land itself.

The book provides young readers not only with knowledge but also with a living connection to the historical and spiritual story of the Jewish people: from the entry into the land in the days of Joshua, through the period of settlement, to the time of the Judges—a complex and fascinating era of national and spiritual development.

This is an experiential, rich, and in-depth textbook designed to provide children and teenagers with a meaningful reading experience of the Bible, while maintaining full fidelity to the sources and presenting the content in a clear and accessible manner.
