Shabbat volume 1 – Peninei Halakha/ שבת א’ באנגלית

In the Torah, Shabbat is one of the commandments with the most principles, generalities and details. That’s why Rav Eliezer Melamed has decided to dedicate two volumes to it in the Pninah Halacha series of books.
In this first volume, you will discover the deep spiritual foundations of Shabbat, but also the laws of preparation, prayer, kidush, the reasons why there are 39 forbidden works, and the detailed study of the first forbidden works.

In a clear, concise and methodical style, this book will enlighten the reader who wishes to discover or deepen his knowledge of Shabbat. In addition, the book refers to the different customs among the people of Israel, and also focuses on all the contemporary questions about Shabbat in connection with new technologies.

On Shabbat, we attach ourselves to the Source of our life. By this, the unitary root of all creatures is revealed and, from then on, peace is brought to the world. The most profound opposition in the world is that of spirit (Ruach) and matter (Homer), that of the soul (Nechama) and the body (Guf). From a secular point of view, it seems that these two opposites are in conflict with each other and struggle against each other. However, on Shabbat, it appears that the soul and the body complement each other, for through the soul the body comes to life and receives blessing, while through the body the soul manifests itself. Hence the Sabbatical obligation to revel spiritually and materially, through Torah study, prayer, meals and sleep.”
